Taking place at Everard Read’s Circa Gallery, Interlude is a new exhibition by artist Lionel Smit, who is famous for his huge portraits on canvas that frequently challenge the way we perceive the everyday. In this new exhibition of oil paintings Smit bears witness to and explores the subtle range of veiled human emotions. In particular, for this series the artist took inspiration from the anatomical studies painted by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (1780-1867) and combines thick gestural brush strokes with the hazy sfumato effect of the Renaissance painters.

Showing until the 30th April at Everard Read Gallery in Rosebank. Please chat to our Concierge to arrange a visit.
