The Spa industry changes continuously with many changes in the industry stemming from new technological advancements as well as spa and wellness trends widely discussed in the media. The Saxon Spa team – under the leadership of Spa Manager Tanya Lopes – is always looking at ways to incorporate these trends and developments to offer its guests up-to-the-minute treatments and experiences in the inimitable Saxon style.

Looking at the greater global industry, it is reassuring to see the overall return to normality in the industry after the upheavals of the last two years. There has been a greater focus on general wellness, with guests looking to experience a more holistic journey when they visit a spa instead of just a beauty treatment as in the past.

Furthermore, there has been a great movement towards introducing journeys and products that are sustainable and minimise global carbon footprint, a need for better understanding the supply chain and where products are coming from and how they get to you as the customer.

At the Saxon, we have seen that guests are more willing to venture back out into the world, although they are still careful and aware of the necessary precautions. However, they are still experiencing higher levels of stress and tension and/or a lack of sleep – and as a result our new Saxon Sleep Therapy treatment has become very popular. Guests may enter the spa with some reservations towards this treatment, but after experiencing it they leave singing its praises. The Digital Detox Journey has also been much more popular than we expected, guests are enjoying the opportunity to step away from their devices – after having been online for much of the last two years.

We have seen an increase in guests coming back to the spa to enjoy a facial, there is a great sense of guests wanting renewal and a return to normality with spa therapists looking after their entire physical wellbeing. Our guests love the recently launched LING NY facials in the Saxon Spa, especially due to the great results gained by these internationally renowned treatments and products.

The Saxon Hotel, including the spa, implements its core value of sustainability by working with food suppliers that farm responsibly, we work mostly with local manufacturers and suppliers to minimise our carbon footprint and support SMEs and entrepreneur development, always focusing on recyclable and recycled packaging. In developing our SOUL by Saxon range of hotel amenities, we kept this very much in mind to create an exceptional product that can comfortably compete with international brands. The team is planning to expand the range by developing a proudly South African bath and body range using more local ingredients with the Saxon signature scents to add to the quality and exceptional experience we strive to offer our guests.

In addition, a new signature journey is about to be launched at the Spa. The new treatment incorporates ingredients native to South Africa that have been used for centuries improve skin health. A range of new retail products will also be launched in line with the treatment which has been in development since early this year. Watch this space!
